ASC Gears Up to Pangasius Certification

05|07| 2011

Aquaculture farm audits will be conducted by accredited Certification Bodies. Accreditation will be done by Accreditation Services International (ASI). The Certification Bodies auditors undertaking these audits will have to show proof of a satisfying level of experience and qualifications. To build these capacities, the first ASC pangasius training will take place in Vietnam on September 6 - 8. The cost of this training will be announced end of July.

Through ASC's unique and transparent multi-stakeholder process, the important milestone of finalising the Pangasius Standard has been reached. The Standard for responsible Pangasius farming was developed through an open and inclusive process, in which thousands of stakeholders participated globally. The next step will be to kick off the implementation phase. This involves finalising the Auditor Guidance Manual, agreeing on certification bodies requirements, organising training for certification bodies, developing the  ASC consumer facing logo amongst many other tasks.

For more information about the accreditation training, please contact ASC Standards Director Bas Geerts on +31 (0)30 230 5927.
