Independence and transparency

All ASC standards are developed and reviewed by multi-stakeholder groups of experts, and all audits and standards are subject to public consultation – anyone can have their say, and for some farm audits local or indigenous communities are proactively approached for their input. Audits are carried out by specialist independent bodies and ASC is not paid for the audit process. Certified farms must always maintain their responsible practices thanks to annual surveillance audits. And every step in the supply chain must be certified to ensure the ASC label only goes on responsibly produced seafood. This transparency and stringency are some of the reasons that ASC is widely recognised as the most credible standard in farmed seafood.
