On Friday 11th November 2011, the North Sea Foundation and WWF Netherlands will launch their fifth edition of the Dutch Seafood Guide. This latest update of the guide refers to ASC certified Tilapia products, which will be in Dutch stores in the beginning of next year.
Tilapia from Ecuador, Honduras and Indonesia and produced by the farms who produce in line with the ASC tilapia standard are marked as green. The Seafood Guide helps Dutch consumers to choose for sustainable seafood. It simply tells them which seafood to enjoy and which seafood to avoid. Independently certified seafood products such as e.g. from fisheries certified by the Marine Stewardship Council are ranked separately. As soon as farmed tilapia and pangasius products with the ASC label are for sale in the Netherlands, they will be ranked into this separate category as well.
