We set and operate global standards for aquaculture to identify farms that have met the highest standards for environmentally and socially responsible practices. The ASC traceability controls throughout the supply chain ensure the provenance of ASC certified and labelled products.

Purchase of ASC certified seafood helps to provide billions of people with cleaner, healthier, and safer farm-raised seafood. It helps to conserve and restore the world’s oceans, coasts and wildlife and improve the lives of seafood farmers and local communities in the developing world.

ASC acts in the marketplace to increase the awareness, value, demand, and distribution of ASC certified seafood. We work with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public globally to promote the best environmental and social choice in farmed seafood. The ASC is currently implementing organisation-wide outputs of a strategy review including expanding and augmenting the ASC marketing and communications function, and improving the alignment of the department, its strategies and workstreams with the other ASC teams and their objectives

Why this position now?

In its first 10 years the ASC has successfully established credibility, reputation and presence in many markets and production countries around the world. Thousands of seafood products on sale in retailers, foodservice and on restaurant menus already carry the ASC label and consumer awareness and trust of the ASC is growing quickly. But there is a lot more to be done to strengthen audience and organisational alignment on the ASC brand and achieve the stakeholder engagement objectives of our strategic plan


Leading Global Marketing and Communications (and dotted line in-country Marketing Communications) teams you will make a critical and measurable contribution to ASC’s objectives – increasing audiences awareness, involvement, commitment and advocacy, by:

  • lead effective global marketing & communication strategy and planning for our audiences (consumers, customers and influencers) to establish the ASC brand with them
  • grounding a thorough global understanding of our audiences category and brand journey, – experiences and the objectives and outcomes valuable to them, in all marketing and communications planning
  • leading the global development and tailoring of an insight-based marketing mix (product, price, place and communication) in order to market the unique value we offer at touchpoints throughout their journey’s
  • maximising and protecting ASC’s global market leading position through proactive and responsive communications and management of issues and criticisms

Based on the ASC’s business & brand positioning you will drive development of consistent and compelling marketing strategy, marketing planning and marketing assets & activities globally and support the adaption in key markets and countries of production


 Strategy development, planning & delivery on objectives

  • Global Marketing strategy: Lead the marketing strategy development, based on the ASC Business (Theory of Change) and Brand Strategy,
  • Global Marketing planning: Support the development and integration of effective and efficient marketing planning and orchestrating workstreams across global Marketing and Communications
  • Global Marketing delivery: Lead the delivery of the ASC’s Global strategic marketing and communications on objectives through the global development of key marketing mix tools
  • Local marketing support: Working closely with the Director of Market Development & the Brand Director, support the development and integration of effective and efficient strategies, planning and workstreams across in-country marketing and communications

Developing & embedding audience insight, journey and experience

  • Insights development: Work with all departments to capture quantitative and qualitative data that is transformed into valuable, accessible, and rich audience insights about how and why they potentially interact with the ASC
  • Journey development: Utilise audience insights to lead the development of stakeholder journeys, building a comprehensive understanding of key points stakeholders interact with the ASC, and their experiences, tasks and requirements at each stage
  • Tools development: Lead the embedding of audience insight and their journey requirements in the development of action-oriented marketing planning, workstreams and outputs that gives audiences effective tools and motivation to progress through each stage of their journey
  • Organisational improvement: Work with colleagues to devise and implement new processes and tools aligned to continually improving as a more effective and efficient, audience-focused organisation, to improve the audience journey & experience

Marketing mix tactics & assets development, knowledge centre building

  • Global Positioning support: Support the development and testing of ASC global positioning (led by the Brand department)
  • Global Marketing Mix development: Lead the development of the global marketing mix tactics & assets in terms of defining the product/service to market, the place to market, the price to obtain and the communication to support in B2B, B2C and B2I (I=Influencers)
  • Local Marketing Mix support: Support the tailoring of ASC’s positioning & global marketing mix in each market and to each audience and their needs
  • Marketing Mix Innovation: Lead the development of effective new ways to interest and influence audiences across all channels, media, materials and touchpoints including proactive & responsive approach to content development
  • Best practice building: Gather, build and promote Marketing & Communications best practices and lessons learnt that informs and supports the Marketing & Communications teams globally and locally
  • Expert Centre: Develop in depth knowledge in the team to be the ASC expert centre for all other ASC people on B2C & B2B marketing, for media & press management and for digital & social media marketing

 Marketing & Communication team management & development

  • Ensure that the functions of Marketing & Communications understand and work towards the ASC vision, mission, and overarching Marketing & Communications objectives and strategies
  • Ensure that the functions of Marketing & Communications understand their responsibilities and are comfortable with their integration across the teams
  • Delegate activities to the right teams equally and ensure they are prioritised effectively with adequate timelines
  • Provide general direction and help keep workflows, projects and day-to-day tasks on-track
  • Help the teams integrate and build connections and positive working relations with other teams across the ASC
  • Support the maintenance of the Marketing & Communications’ repositories and promote the use of protocols & guidelines to ensure they are useful and used by staff
  • Ensure the team members are engaged and satisfied with their role and contribution
  • Carry out performance appraisals for each team lead and collect 360 feedback
  • Manage and support the professional development of the team leads to ensure they have the skills needed to achieve their team’s goals

  • Accomplishment and delivery (right solution, on time, on budget, to right quality) on marketing and communication objectives and projects identified in the marketing strategy and log frames that Marketing and Communications are responsible for
  • Qualitative and quantitative audiences perception and behaviour insight shows Marketing & Communications outputs are building, enhancing and safeguarding the ASC positioning and an increasing alignment & engagement to the ASC brand positioning

  • Educated to post degree level or equivalent relevant professional experience, (with relevant professional qualification)
  • Extensive experience in international marketing management, preferably gained in a medium-sized organisation undergoing change, both in B2B as B2C marketing.
  • Technical/Science based marketing communications experience and the ability to distil complex information and generate concise and compelling positioning and communication for a variety of audiences
  • Proactive mindset and problem solver who identifies and creates opportunities and devising innovative solutions to marketing communications opportunities
  • Collaborative minded, preferably with experience in dealing with various audiences in the seafood arena
  • Extensive experience and success of working closely with senior colleagues, of building international networks and relationships that deliver results
  • Extensive experience of strategic planning based on insights gathered from surveys, research and stakeholder relations
  • Very strong communication skills, both verbal and written, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills across communication channels and in meetings with ability to influence and handle sensitive situations
