ASC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established in 2010. We now have over 90 employees working all around the world, to set and operate global standards for responsible aquaculture by promoting certified farmed products to consumers, through the use of our logo.
The aquaculture industry is growing strongly and is already supplying more than half of all seafood consumed worldwide, but this growing demand increases the environmental and social footprint associated with this expansion. The ASC certification and labelling programme incentivise improved farming practices by promoting the benefits of responsibly farmed seafood and encourages an industry towards achieving environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

The Producer Outreach manager will be responsible for engaging and retaining primarily salmon and other fish producing companies in the ASC programme in order to maintain and increase certified supply to meet the demand for ASC labelled products in priority markets.
The position’s primary goals are securing and deepening the commitment of these producers, often internationally operating integrated aquaculture operatiors, to ASC certification; building effective working relationships with existing and new clients; and enhancing the quality of our producer outreach and support services. In addition, relations with affiliated stakeholders – e.g. government and industry associations – linked to aquaculture production, are developed/ maintained in the Nordic countries to create conditions for support for uptake of the ASC programme.
The job combines the ability to convey the commercial value of the ASC programme towards producers, as well as the need to support them in understanding our standards, the certification process and certification methodologies. The role requires a good understanding of how a third party certification programme works in combination with excellant stakeholder management and business development qualities. We are seeking an experienced, commercially astute manager with farming / supply chain / trading experience in the seafood sector, preferably in Norway, or otherwise in another Nordic country.
- Promote the value of the ASC logo and uptake of the programme towards producing companies in the region and connecting certified supply to the priority markets for ASC in Europe, but also globally.
- Support producers with getting certified: by responding to inquiries and delivering workshops regarding standards and certification requirements and with guidance for using the ASC logo on labelled products.
- Actively encourage the participation of producing companies and other local stakeholders in the public consultations for the further development of the ASC programme.
- Identify issues and obstacles to the effective delivery of Farm and Feed certification (including services provided by CABs) and work on solutions to those obstacles with relevant ASC staff.
- Promote the role, credibility and value of ASC certification to other stakeholders such as governments, research organisations, industry associations and other relevant (government) agencies and seek opportunities and synergies for alignment and collaboration.
- Increase our supply chain intelligence about key producing companies who are critical for meeting demand in prioritized markets for ASC and the trade flows of flows of fish from producers into domestic and overseas markets.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the ASC Market Development Team across the globe to maximize leverage from the market side to salmon and producing companies in the Nordic region.
- Collaborate with colleagues and identify producing companies in the Nordics for the ASC Improver Programme.
- Relevant qualifications, preferably a master degree in/related to salmon production or aquaculture.
- At least 5 years on the ground experence in the salmon or fish farming and/ or trading industry.
- Established network of relations with key producers and processors in the region, but also with industry associations, the government and local NGOs and consultants supporting the sector.
- An engaging and trustworthy personality able to work collaboratively with high integrity.
- Profound knowledge of aquaculture certification schemes in general and ASC in particular.
- Ability to explain the technical details of the ASC programme in an understandable way.
- Strong focus on the delivery of excellent customer services with a diplomatic approach and appearance.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, as evidenced by your ability to cultivate and manage relationships with partners.
- Excellent verbal communication skills having the natural ability to interact with a diverse range in seniority of staff within target companies.
- Strong project management, planning and time-management skills with a pro-active “can-do” personality.
- Ability to work as part of a globally operating team, but also the skills and character to work remotely.
- Being able to operate in a matrix-organisation requiring the ability to collaborate with various staff and an excellent understanding of responsibilities in such a context.
- An understanding of global trends and environmental and / or social issues in seafood sustainability and the role that certification plays in driving positive change.
- Ideally native in Norwegian and fluent in English and another Nordic language.
