Question
ASC has received a request to give an interpretation as to which schemes can be considered as “equivalent” to RTRS.
Determination
Effective date
August 9, 2019
Rationale
Although soy can be certified to a great variety of certification schemes and discussions around equivalency are conducted in multiple platforms (e.g. UK Roundtable for Sustainable Soy), within the Scope of the current ASC Standards, equivalency of RTRS is acknowledged to Proterra and Donau Soja/Europa Soya certification only.
This determination is consistent with external equivalency determinations, including mutual acknowledgement(1) by RTRS and Proterra themselves and third parties like IUCN(2), WWF(3) and Consumer Goods Forum(4) as well.
ASC would like to highlight that this determination will be valid untill the new ASC Feed Standard is implemented. It is for the readers attention that within the ASC Feed Standard additional (soy) certification schemes will be recognised to address key concerns sufficiently.
